Seahorses have enchanted people for thousands of years. Here you will find many whimsical seahorses – most which date from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. Seahorses come in all types, shapes and sizes – some were very realistic and others took on a whimsical look with hats and dresses. They were created from ceramic or chalkware as figurines, vases, wall plaques, aquarium decorations, and salt & pepper shakers. Often you see vintage seahorse family wall plaques and figurines consisting of mom, dad and baby. Although seahorses can hold their own as a display piece, they also make a nice compliment to your vintage mermaids. Seahorses were primarily manufactured by Lefton, Norcrest, Bradley, Napco, Enesco, Ceramicraft, Artmark, Miller Studio, and small US and Japanese pottery shops.
